A soft smile spread across her face as the man attempted to give her directions, only to stop and decide to lead her there himself. Her eyes briefly glanced over his features, a bit curious. Was he another League employee of some kind? Regardless, she followed behind him with a cautious walk.

In the large room, Ruby's eyes narrowed a bit as she looked around. A strange, simple arena within the building itself. Was this where she was going to be battling Kyle? Or was there somewhere else in mind, and this was simply a training room? Regardless, Ruby was mostly wondering why it was unlit.

As he spoke, Ruby was quick to pull out both her badge case and her league card from her backpack, revealing the 6 badges she had as well as her general identification. "Well, I was hoping to speak with him so that I could arrange a battle! I don't exactly know if many people even get the chance to, but with 6 badges I should be able to challenge them! No better test to prove my worth than to fight the region's top trainers, right?"

Oh. Whoops. Ruby blushed a bit nervously, awkwardly rubbing the back of her neck as he mentioned speaking to the person at the front desk. Honestly, she should have expected that. Just because some of the gyms were a bit more casual didn't mean that the actual Elite Four were. They likely had lives outside of just accepting challengers, after all.

However, her eyes widen as his phone suddenly activates all the lights. Ruby's quick to cover her own eyes as well for a bit as the room suddenly lights up. Just before she could politely dismiss herself to actually talk to the front desk, he asked her to battle. Almost immediately, Ruby's nerves fell away to a curious confusion.

Just who was this? His phone controlled the lights in the room, but that didn't explain anything else. Obviously he wanted to battle... but he also hadn't even introduced himself. Curious over his identity, Ruby eventually smiled and nodded her head. Far be it for her to turn down a challenge! Maybe the practice couldn't hurt.

"Sure. How does doubles sound? Two on Two?" Ruby simply smiled, reaching down to her waist and grabbing two of her pokeballs as she slowly moved to climb the platform. It felt so... official, almost. Most of the gyms she had competed in just had some area or some open space for battling. An actual arena was certainly quite exciting, almost reminded her a bit of the gyms back home, but even then the trainers still stood just behind the fight.

Ruby sent out Whisper and Bubbles, the two Pokemon standing poised and ready to fight. Bubbles as quiet, serene as ever, while the Hatterene had a confident smirk spreading across her face. Quickly shouting out across the arena, Ruby had an excited smile on her face. "Ready when you are! Just say the word!"

Manectric, Minun, both electric Type Pokemon, not something she immediately had an answer for without a little bit of strategy, but something she was confident she could eventually handle. However, her eyes rested atop the Minun with curiosity. In Doubles, why would one use a Minun and not a Plusle together? Something had to be up, some sort of strategy. She doubted someone working at the Pokemon League would just have absolutely no idea how to battle, that was for sure.

She was just about to command her Pokemon when he mentioned, almost offhandedly, that there were cameras recording this battle. Even more curious. Once again, Ruby's curiosity was piqued as she eyed the man and then to the camera off to the side. Just who was watching? Regardless, Ruby nodded her head as she returned her focus to the battlefield.

Long ago, Ruby had decided that simply calling out moves would give the advantage to the opponent, allowing them to think and counteract whatever she said. Instead, Ruby put her faith into her pokemon and relied on trained statements. "Whisper, Bubbles, prepare for battle!" Immediately, Whisper's eyes narrowed as she let out a deep breath, preparing with Calm Mind. Her mind emptying, readying for battle as psychic energies swirled around the Hatterene.

Bubbles, however, was more tricky with their preparations. Sliding directly behind Whisper as her trainer had planned, she set up her defenses. A Mat Block was quickly formed in front of them, intent to flip upwards the very moment something attempted to damage either of them. With the hope that Whisper's own Magic Bounce would prevent any status moves from affecting her team. She didn't have much in the way of status effects or battlefield control for these two pokemon and had to come up with at least some way to control the flow of battle, rather than be pushed around by those who did instead.

Ruby's hands clenched at her sides, a bit of nerves already forming. She was confident in her pokemon, but that didn't stop Ruby from being anxious. She was in Ever Grande City and her very first battle here would likely be what affected every other challenge. This was just as important.

Notes: Whisper prepared with Calm Mind. Bubbles slid behind Whisper, with the hope Whisper's Magic Bounce controls the flow of combat, and sets up Mat Block, to protect from any damage moves, and will be immediately flipped up to protect the entire team upon attack. Protean changes Bubble's type to Fighting.

Ruby shielded her eyes as electricity zapped across the entire battlefield, the damaging electricity being thankfully blocked by Bubbles' mat, but the terrain of the arena was still covered with it. It seemed like they were going to be relying on buffing up their electric types attacks. Her eyes narrowed as she examined the two opposing pokemon.

Perhaps it was time to force the battlefield to her favor. She couldn't manipulate the terrain in the same way, but she could force a type advantage, and lessen their own electric type attacks. "Whisper!" She called out, pointing towards. "Show that hound your signature move! Bubbles, follow through!"

Smirking with an almost sadistic look, Whisper chuckled silently to herself as she spun around, tossing a huge cloud of Magic Powder at Cormag the Manectric. While its effects might not be obvious, it would have hopefully changed their typing to Psychic Type!

Following off her ally's movement, Bubble's shadow would spread across the entire battlefield, using the move Shadow Sneak as it quickly attempted to strike Cormag from behind. The Ghost-type attack hopefully being super effective against the now Psychic-type Manectric, while her own ability Protean would change her own type to Ghost.

Notes: Whisper's Magic Powder would change Cormag's typing to Psychic. Bubble's followed through with Shadow Sneak, to hopefully land a super-effective move. Protean changes Bubble's own ability to Ghost Type.

Rain Dance? This certainly wasn't good, not good at all. Everything was getting soaked, no doubt a few of their electric type attacks might be harder to avoid, with the ground itself being wet and conducting the electricity. Ruby could care less about the water suddenly in her face, just quickly placing a hand up to attempt to keep her glasses clear so she could keep watching the actual battle, despite the rest of her getting soaked.

With the Discharge shocking the entire battlefield and electrocuting both her pokemon, Ruby knew that she had to even the playing field in some manner. Whisper was slow and took the blast straight to the face, albeit her defenses were pretty solid. Bubbles however certainly seemed to look like they took a stronger hit, however, their movements a bit choppy from the shock.

With this level of battlefield control, things weren't looking good. Especially after Bubble's Shadow Sneak managed to be dodged. Gritting her teeth to steel her resolve, Ruby quickly reached up with her free hand to grab hold of her necklace. "Whisper!" Ruby yelled out to get her pokemon's attention.

"It's time! Show them your strength! Confuse them!" At those words, the Hatterene's smug grin slowly spread into an even wider smirk as she quickly began to mega evolve. Growing larger in size, psychic energy quite literally swirling around her as she silently cried out. Tentacles split, Whisper was certainly attempting to make herself as intimidating as possible as she suddenly struck. Stars would rain down from above from the move Smite, hopefully slamming straight into the Manectric. Even if they were dodged, the residual fairy-type energy would act almost like electricity, firing across the battlefield and hopefully confusing both targets.

"Bubbles! Don't let up, again!" The Greninja certainly tried, just about to send out their shadow before their entire body locked up, struggling to move. Ruby's hand clenched around her necklace some more, silently urging Bubbles to overcome this. They eventually managed to move again, but only after wasting the perfect moment for a follow-up attack.

Notes: Whisper and Bubbles both took the hit, Bubbles is Paralyzed, and Whisper's Calm Mind previously helped its defense. Whisper Mega Evolved, using GMAX Smite, a move that confuses all opponents on the field. Bubbles is fully paralyzed and misses their chance to attack.
